What the document contains

1. The title, and the place and date of issue
2. The principal and the attorney, each with full name, date of birth, passport or ID card (number, issued by, date) and registered address
3. The purpose and a list of powers, each of them concrete (represent interests, sign, receive)
4. Delegation and the validity period
5. The principal’s signature and a note on notarisation when it is required

What to know before signing

• Place and date of issue are mandatory: a power of attorney without the date of issue is void.
• State the validity period as the person gives it; with no period stated it is valid for one year from issue.
• Say whether the attorney may delegate the powers; without it, delegation is not allowed.
• A power of attorney for a transaction that itself needs notarial form (real estate, vehicles, inheritance, most bank operations) is certified by a notary.
