What the document contains

1. Place and date of issue
2. The principal and the attorney, each with full name, date of birth, passport or ID card (number, issued by, date) and registered address
3. The vehicle: make, model, year, colour, plate number, VIN and registration certificate (number and date)
4. The powers: drive, represent before the road police and other bodies, pass technical inspection, insure; and only when asked, sell, exchange, pledge, rent out or receive the money
5. Delegation, validity period, signature and a note on notarisation

What to know before signing

• Place and date of issue are mandatory: a power of attorney without the date of issue is void.
• State the validity period as the person gives it; with no period stated it is valid for one year from issue.
• Say whether the attorney may delegate the powers; without it, delegation is not allowed.
• Powers to sell or otherwise dispose of the vehicle are written only when the person asks for them, and a power of attorney to dispose of a vehicle is certified by a notary.
